Project Description
My friend Mike is looking for a redesign for his company. Starting from scratch and using his original concept from a tattoo idea, I will create him a brand identity including but not limited to the following: logo, letterhead, promotional ideas and layouts, posters, print outs as well as possible website and advertisements.
Resources needed
I will use a sketchbook for conceptual art, then Photoshop, Illustrator, scanning of own images, possible stock photography, the Internet and Flash.
How this project will reflect my abilities and learning
This project will help establish my skills as an artist as well as a designer, using all the knowledge I have previously gained through Canisius courses as well as self-taught imagination and world influenced creativity.

Website - Paws for the Arts
Project Description
My grandmother has a dog who does paintings and she has started this project where she will be selling them and appear on various shows. She has come to me asking to make a website so people have a place to go for information about the dog, see the paintings, etc.
Resources needed
I need to get the domain and hosting stuff setup, and then i will need to design the entire website based on the information that she gave me of what she wants.
How this project will reflect my abilities and learning
It will show the design skills i have learned and adapted to through the various DMA classes i have taken. It will also be used as another resource/reference for future employers to look at some of my work. (a portfolio piece)

Rubia en Espana
Project Description
I studied abroad in Spain last semester with the Video Institute Equipment prepared to do a video institute piece for the International Office when I returned. However, while I was in Spain I filmed more then just an informational video. Because of my inability to communicate in Spanish at the level I wanted I found myself relying on the camera to express my emotions. I started a video log of my experiences and struggles with finding myself and living abroad. Project Description
The Midle School Summer Science Camp has an annual summer camp for kids and the program has grown very large and the website needs a new and fresh professional look. This website is run through the school's site.
Resources needed
For this project, I will need Photoshop and Dreamweaver, with possible use of Illustrator and a text editor for manual coding. I will also need to get photos and information from the group in order to add their context to the website. I will also need the group's opinion on what colors and layout style they would like and if there are any things they feel are important to be shown.

I hope to be able to show and use the skills I have learned to make a functional, yet stylish website that reflects what the group wants everybody to see. I also hope to be able to show my use of layouts and color to bring the website together.

Project Description
My friend has a band titled In the Presence of Enemies. They are starting out and have an extremely talented guitarist. The bass player approached me to design two t-shirt ideas. I will also design an album, fliers, and poster for the band.

I plan to combine my drawing skills with the use of programs such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator in order to create stunning artwork.

I will utilize design skills, along with illustration skills in order to create an image of the band that will reflect their musical style.

Sherman Theater Project
Project Description
I will be making minor adjustments to an already existing exterior model of the Sherman Theater renovation. Working with an architect, I will then use specified color schemes to texture the model and render the images. The rendered images will then be imported into photoshop and placed over photos of the existing architecture. These images will then be used in a fund raising campaign for the theaters revival. And if time permits, there are plans for an interior renovation as well, which I hope to be apart of.

This project will utilize my modeling, texturing, and lighting skills in maya, in order to create photo realistic images of a proposed renovation project.

Tom Wolf, a professor here at Canisius, is also a professional photographer who needs a complete re-design of a professional website.

Project Description
I will be the designer of the literary magazine known as The Quadrangle as well as doing other graphic design work for Mick Cochrane in the English department. I will design the entire magazine, work with the layout, possibly design the cover and any other work needed in association with the English Department and the Quadrangle.

I will do most of my work in InDesign but will need to use Photoshop and Illustrator as well. I will need to do research on other literary magazine publications. I will also need help working with InDesign.
How this project will reflect my abilities and learning
This project will give me experience working with a client making sure to follow their needs while integrating my own style. I will also become more proficient in Adobe programs such as InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Designing the Quadrangle will give me a great portfolio piece and will help further my interest and hopefully my eventual career in print design.

I will be preparing and constructing a corporate identity for the Greater Jefferson Business Commons, an organization looking to help the economic and social growth of the east side of Buffalo. I will be designing, business cards, discount cards, envelopes, logo, decal, letterhead, powerpoint background templates and proposing an idea for a website design and layout.

The resources that I will need and use are powerpoint, microsoft word, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and a camera.
How this project will reflect my abilities and learning
The courses that I've taken such, Digital Illustration, Intro to Web Design, Typography and Color will help me further develop my design skills when handling this project. I good sense of color will help me to develop a color theme that will follow throughout the design of every aspect for brand.

Project Description
For Collin McCormack, the freelance videographer behind nicknameless.net I plan to put together a portfolio/identity website. It would be primarily flash with an extremely rich user experience. Content would be easily updateable by Collin through a content management system I would implement. Extremely dynamic, easy to use, nice to look at.
Resources needed
He has the domain and hosting already so all I will need to get rolling will be his content and portfolio materials, and hardware/software I already have (although I may end up purchasing CS3).
How this project will reflect my abilities and learning
The project will reflect my design, coding, and creative skills as this project will certainly turn out to be a series of unique puzzles that have to be solved to piece it all together.

Project Title
Turning Point: The Cuban Bomber Crisis
Project Description
The project entails producing a relatively short documentary on alternate historical events of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The story revolves around how President Nixon (having beaten Kennedy in the 1960 election) deals with the Soviet Union placing bombers equipped with nuclear bombs in Cuba. It will use original historical photos, memos, and recordings presented out of historical context along with new material (3D animation, interview footage, and audio) to tell the story. The end result will be a film (video) running from 15 to 30 minutes in length detailing the year-by-year, day-by-day, and minute-by-minute events of this fictional historical event.
Resources needed
For this project I will need Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Premiere, and Autodesk Maya as well as a computer to use them on and a video camera (I have these and/or have access to them). Also I will need access to historical documents and photos (available online through the NSA and National Achieves), actors to do "mock" interviews with (already set in some cases), and a historical expert to assist in making the "alternate history" seem as realistic as possible (Cold War history is well known to me and I already have access to an expert on Russian history - I am looking into finding an expert on modern American history)
How this project will reflect my abilities and learning
This project will push the envelope of my skills in video production, editing, audio, photo manipulation, motion graphics, 3d model building/animation, design, and most importantly storytelling. It should result in a piece that is a tour-de-force of my abilities as a digital media specialist highlighting everything that I am capable of and assist me greatly in securing a post Canisius job or place in another academic program.

A as close to feature film length film as possible; based on a Stephen King short story, with elements added to make it more cinematic. The film will be structured in a way similar to "The Prestige" with a less straighforward narrative than is common, as it would aid the story.

The project will push the level of my filming, writing, directing, editing, and actually working with a filming crew. There are no two ways around it, this will be a daunting task, and I am ready to accept it.

3D in Video Games
Project Description
The project will involve the creation of several interactive 3d models in Maya, and then putting them into a game engine. They will then be manipulated into animation. Potentially there may some form of user interaction with a video game model/character if I am able to learn how to do that and showcase it.

Maya, Photoshop, Game Engine (I think I will be using the torque or unreal engine). I'm taking the 3D for Video Gaming course right now, so I will be using skills I develop in that class to help me finish the project.

This project will reflect my skill at creating an entertaining and believable landscape and animation, as well as using them in the environment of a video game engine.

I plan on designing a brand identity for my friend who is seriously into home brewing. I will design a company logo and identity for his home brewing business. Currently Untitled Movie
Project Description
I will be writing a script for a movie that will run roughly 30 minutes. Though I have limited experience in screen writing, I feel that writing the script will help me to grow in this field. As well, once this is completed, I will be aiming to film this and edit it.
Resources needed
I remain in communication with a professor from NYU whom I took a screen writing course with over the summer, so he will be working on my script with me. As well, I will be needing actors, which I will try to get through Craigs List. Finally, I will need camera equipment, which is available in the Media Center upstairs. I feel that I am well prepared and know what to expect with this process.
How this project will reflect my abilities and learning
I feel that my area of specialty is digital video, so I wanted to incorporate this into my capstone. Through taking classes her as well as film classes with NYU, I have decided to pursue my MFA with NYU in cinematography. With this in mind, I need a strong film to add to my portfolio, and this is the way for me to do that. As well, working on all of the aspects of this film on my own, I can truly put all of myself into this project. It will incorporate all of my experience from the past 3 years to complete this.

I have about 93 old black and white family photos of my fathers family growing up, ranging from the early 1950's to the later 70's, that all need digital restoration. After I restore all 93 black and white photos, I will be colorizing all the pics and turning them into small movie, roughly 7-10 minutes, that shows the both the transformation of "before" and after".

SIFE Projects
Project Description
For the student organization SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) I will be completing several projects. The most important of these being a 24 minute presentation and annual report they will be presenting in their annual competition(s). Also included are a few smaller web based projects, editing (but not shooting) a one minute video, and some small print material. Presentation will include a visit to a small town in Mexico where SIFE is involved to film/photograph material and many other smaller filming/photographing tasks.

The Adobe Creative Suite, cameras (both still and video), the content which they wish to present and a great deal of time.

This will stretch my abilities to create finished products that appear related but separate enough that they are not repetitive. I will have a great deal of work to do to make sure that their products represent their organization and fit the standards of both SIFE at Canisius and the SIFE corporation rules.

The Mezzanine
Project Description
The Buffalo Central Terminal is an important Buffalo landmark and is an asset to the city's skyline. Over the past decades, it has fallen into disuse. It is now in the hands of the Buffalo Central Terminal Restoration Corporation and they are trying to restore the building back to its original beauty, as well, fill it with tenants and get more people to come there. It is with this group that I am developing a 3d version of how I would envision the restaurant space in the modern times.

I will be using floor plans and dimensions that I have been given, as well doing my 3d work in 3D Studio Max, which I have purchased after learning the program in the past.

It uses my design skills to develop what I see the future of this space being, as well my proficiency with the program. This project requires a large amount of my time not only doing the work in the program, but brainstorming and sketching as well.

For my project, I will be creating, developing, and branding a company that can stay in competition with Bath and Body Works. I will need to come up with a name, logo, and the different components used create an identity for the company. I will then come up with a general layout of the store as well as the different fixtures that will fill the floor. I will also design examples of different marketing and advertisements. A written description of the company and how the store will run will be included to tie everything together.

For the technical and visual part of my project, I will need to use Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. As far as the research I will need to gather for understanding branding and the different components for running a business. Online and articles, databases, and sources is going to give me the best information.

As a Digital Media major I prefer to stick to graphics and everything that ties in with design, which is exactly where this project falls. It explores the different areas besides just a classic poster design.

The publisher has decided to start another magazine called Coast that is geared toward a younger crowd and I have been asked me to design it. I have already done some small samples (possible logos, dummy articles, etc.). The expected release date is November, so most of the work will be done in late September/October.

Nothing more than a mac, the adobe creative suite, and an internet connection.
How this project will reflect my abilities and learning
I have really been focusing on expandiing my design skills toward print, especially newspapers/magazines, over my years at Canisius. This project will allow me to utilize my skills to their utmost in creating my own design template from scratch rather than having to be restricted by someone else's stylebook.

Conference Study Guide \ Magazine
Project Description
Study Guide (similar to second half of sample book): Take content from author and lay it out in a manner which is easy to follow, as well as interesting to the reader. This part will be a fairly simple "workbook" style layout. Two-color (blue, black, white [paper]); finished size: 8.5x11; spiral bound or plastic coil bound; self cover; 80# text. Magazine (similar to first half of sample book): Will incorporate schedule, advertisements, rules\guidelines, speaker and artist bios, maps, photo collages, etc. Needs to grab attention and be a "standout" piece. 4/4 color; finished size: 8.5x11 or 6x9; saddle stitched; self cover; #20 gloss (magazine type look, light paper, high gloss); perfs needed; will look into fold-out (cost big factor)

How this project will reflect my abilities and learning
With the study guide part of the project, I will mostly be doing simple text layout. The magazine part of the project will require a lot of layout as well as design for many of the full page ads. The background design and flow of the piece are also my responsibility.

College Life Buffalo
Project Description
I will be creating an identity package for a website that will be launched within a year from now. The goal is to touch on each aspect of branding/identity for the site, in hopes of eventually developing a College Life Buffalo magazine/community. I will be designing a template for the web (collegelifebuffalo.com), logo, marketing materials (posters, stickers, etc..) packaging (evenlope), letterhead, and a business card. I also hope to film, edit and produce a few one minute shorts promoting the site/College Life campaign. I will be utilizing a variety of applications and will also be incorporating illustrations into my work.

How this project will reflect my abilities and learning
By developing an entire identity for the campaign, I will begin to develop/expose my personal style and perspective on design. In the process of logo design I will utilize my illustration skills eventually "mixing media" (illustration with digital media). Since I will be using a range of applications and media, I intend on displaying a very detail oriented, well-rounded branding/identity package. As for the technical aspect, I hope to show my proficiency in these applications and how my creativity is incorporated throughout the project.

My project will consist of me designing 14 pannels at the Koessler Athletic Center. My idea is to have smaller images in the background with larger images in the foreground. This will help grab peoples attention, as well as to incorporate more photos onto the 14 pannels.

This project will help with my design skills in that I'm taking a blank pannel and designing images that will not only fit the pannels, but also help to get people excited about going to see a sporting even at the KAC. Project Description
Sunday is a skateboard shop located off Elmwood. I want to display Sunday's store as well as connect with young/old skateboard riders as well as kids/teens/adults involved in extreme sports (snowboarding,bmx,rollerblading). I will adjust my style along side of the style of the shop, and to the group in which this video applies to. I want to make it a semi-documentary where short interviews would be shown weekly. Each video would cover a certain subject as in skateboarding, snowboarding, etc. The first piece will be an opening piece to familiarize Sunday, as well as set a theme and mood to the upcoming pieces.
